Stories of Hope

Dear Friend to Friend,

I wanted to take the time out to thank ya’ll for taking me and my kids in. I don’t know where we would be if it hadn’t been for ya’ll. We have been here for a month and I thought I would catch you up on some of the things that have happened to; or rather for us. First, I look in the mirror and for the first time in a long time; I like what I see! The haircut and makeover has given me a little of my self esteem back. Second, my children are starting to calm down. The longer they are away from their father and his abusive ways toward me; the less they have re-enacted his behavior. They are even starting to show more respect.

One more thing before I go, you did a nice thing for me yesterday and I thank you. That wasn’t the last thing; so here goes. My abuser had called and left a voicemail on my phone, I’ve had no contact with him since I left. I can’t begin to tell you how safe I have felt for me and the kids, because when I heard that voice and that laugh on the phone my heart began to pound and it was as if he were standing right in front of me. I felt that panic mode and fear begin to start in the pit of my stomach and my heart began to pound, but I quickly looked around and realized I was in a safe place. He could not hurt me here. This is a safe haven. Because before when this happened all I could do was run or stay and take the beating, while my children watched in terror. No one, especially children should live this way.

What you ladies do here is more than provide a shelter; you begin the foundation to a new improved and much happier life for those that come through these doors. A healing! The staff here is great! Ms. Nikki has gone out of her way to help me with job applications and questions. She always has time to talk and listen. I have really enjoyed her point of view and our conversations. She’s very friendly and leaves you with the feeling that you can approach her with any question or problem.

Thank You
Very Sincerely,

Client A
